The problem with what you're saying is that it prevents spaghetti-code which gives the haters less easy excuses to complain about things. We didn’t find the fun.

PS : car manufacturers actually re-invent a lot of things between models, sometimes for the same reasons. I'm just saying that "D3 had X so D4 should have it too" is not that great of a point. Once again, I'm not trying to defend them. And for those that work in the field, yes, I know it's a simplification.Īnd yes, I absolutely understand that, as a player, it feels like a lost opportunity, and that Blizzard should have known what to keep. The sentence "Reinventing the wheel" is even a completely legitimate concept in software development, for various reasons (because, as I said, most games aren't built on top of the previous one, and code reusability is limited, meaning that most functions you already now have to be recreated from scratch). It's actually a common problem in development, and it's often a good idea to make a clean sweep at some point. Any feature in D4 is going to take nearly as much time to implement as if it was in D3.Ĭonsidering that "If old games have X, following games should have X too" is not only a fallacy, but it also often becomes a real problem in development, with ever bigger softwares, that take longer and longer to develop because every previous feature has to be there (and has to be recreated to be included in the new software). I'm not trying to defend Blizzard's decisions, and D4 lack of QoL, but having features in D3 is absolutely irrelevant to the features in D4. They made their own car and had to reinvent the wheels and the safety belt.

Its like a new car manufacturer came on the market and made a new "fancy" car, but instead of building on current cars in the market and improve on it. We went from Diablo 3 season 28 with all the added QoL over the year to this barebones husk of a game that doesn't even have a stat list of potential rerolls. Not only is it lacking content, its lacking core features. Really hoping season 1 has something more. For a game that was worked on for 10 years it sure is lacking in content.
